Description

This seminar covers stress management for teens and parents, focusing on the science of stress, wellness, and communication strategies. It explores how stress affects teens, particularly in relation to brain development, and emphasizes the importance of sleep, balance between activities, and stress-relief methods like exercise and mindfulness. The seminar also highlights the need for open communication between teens and parents to better manage stress and provide support.

Learning Outcomes

After completing this training, you will be to:

  1. Identify Technology Stressors: Participants will be able to identify specific ways in which technology can contribute to stress in children, including constant connectivity and distraction from important activities.
  2. Engage in Conversations: Participants will be able to demonstrate effective communication strategies for discussing stress with children, helping them to identify their personal stressors and feelings.
  3. Promote Healthy Coping Mechanisms: Participants will be able to outline at least three healthy coping mechanisms that children can use to manage stress, such as exercise, relaxation techniques, and socializing with friends and family.
  4. Develop a Family Strategy: Participants will be able to create a family strategy for managing technology use that prioritizes well-being, ensuring a balance between screen time and engaging in meaningful activities.
  5. Identify Physical Symptoms: Participants will be able to recognize and describe common physical symptoms of stress in young adults, including headaches, stomachaches, and sleep difficulties.
  6. Recognize Emotional Symptoms: Participants will be able to identify emotional symptoms of stress, such as irritability, anxiety, and depression, and discuss their impact on young adults’ overall well-being.
  7. Observe Behavioral Changes: Participants will be able to explain how stress can manifest in behavioral changes, including withdrawal from social interactions and increased aggression.
  8. Implement Support Strategies: Participants will be able to develop strategies for supporting young adults experiencing stress, including how to initiate conversations about their feelings and encourage healthy coping mechanisms.
  9. Understand the Science of Stress: Participants will gain an understanding of how stress impacts teens, including the science behind stress and its effects on adolescent brain development, decision-making, and impulse control.
  10. Learn Effective Stress-Relief Strategies: Participants will explore various methods for managing stress, such as physical exercise, nutrition, mindfulness, and maintaining a positive mindset through gratitude.
  11. Promote Healthy Sleep Habits: Participants will learn the importance of adequate sleep for teen wellness, including the necessary amount of sleep for optimal functioning and tips for improving sleep hygiene.
  12. Enhance Parent-Teen Communication: Participants will develop strategies for fostering open, healthy communication between parents and teens about stress, helping to create a supportive environment for stress management.
