This training explores proactive strategies for addressing youth mental health needs and preventing crises. It emphasizes innovative approaches such as warmlines, which provide peer support and create accessible pathways to care for young people experiencing mental health concerns or serious mental illness. Participants will learn about the critical role of cultural considerations, including how beliefs, values, and spirituality can serve as protective factors during crises. The training also delves into effective practices for reducing youth suicide through education, prevention, and early intervention, equipping participants with tools to recognize warning signs and foster supportive environments.

After completing this training, you will be able to:

  6. Identify Cultural and Spiritual Protective Factors: Participants will be able to identify at least two ways in which spirituality and cultural practices can serve as protective factors for youth during critical incidents.
  7. Discuss the Impact of Cultural Considerations: By the conclusion of the training, participants will be able to discuss the importance of incorporating cultural considerations into crisis care practices, providing specific examples of how this can improve outcomes for youth.
  8. Develop Culturally Informed Strategies: Participants will be able to propose at least two culturally informed strategies for effectively supporting youth in crisis, emphasizing the need for sensitivity to individual cultural backgrounds and beliefs.
  9. Recognize Warning Signs: Participants will be able to identify and describe key warning signs of suicidal ideation in youth, such as changes in behavior, mood, and social withdrawal.

  11. Build Supportive Environments: Participants will be able to create and implement strategies for building supportive environments in schools, communities, and homes that foster emotional safety and connection for young people.
  12. Apply Early Intervention Strategies: Participants will be able to apply practical, proactive strategies for early intervention, ensuring youth at risk receive timely and appropriate mental health support.
