Full course description
Description
This training focuses on the health disparities faced by American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) populations compared to the general U.S. population. It highlights key statistics, such as life expectancy differences, and examines diseases with the highest mortality disparity ratios, including diabetes and chronic liver disease.
Target Audience
This training is designed for public health professionals, healthcare providers, policy makers, and community advocates seeking to address health inequities in AI/AN communities.
Learning Outcomes
After completing this training, you will be able to:
- Understand the life expectancy gap of 5.5 years between AI/AN populations and the general U.S. population.
- Identify diseases with significant mortality disparity ratios for AI/AN populations, such as diabetes and chronic liver disease.
- Recognize unintentional injuries as a leading cause of death with a disparity ratio of 2.5 for AI/AN populations.
- Note conditions like Alzheimer's disease where AI/AN populations show lower mortality rates than the general U.S. population.
- Develop awareness of targeted areas for intervention to reduce mortality disparities in AI/AN communities.
