The NIA Workshop on Oral Health and Alzheimer’s Disease explored the intricate connection between oral health and cognitive decline, including Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. It addressed the importance of systemic inflammation, the role of the oral microbiome, and the potential for interdisciplinary approaches to improve health outcomes in older adults. Discussions also highlighted the barriers to care, such as limited dental insurance for adults over 65, and proposed strategies to optimize research and public health efforts.
