Full course description
Description
This training provides an overview of sleep-disordered breathing, focusing on the classification, pathophysiology, and management of conditions such as obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), central sleep apnea (CSA), hypoventilation, and hypoxemia caused by ventilation-perfusion mismatch. Key mechanisms, diagnostic methods, and targeted treatments for these conditions are discussed, including the role of ventilatory control stability, positive airway pressure therapies, and adjunct treatments like oxygen and positional therapy.
Target Audience
This training is designed for pulmonologists, sleep specialists, respiratory therapists, and healthcare providers involved in diagnosing and managing sleep-disordered breathing conditions.
Learning Outcomes
After completing this training, you will be able to:
- Understand the classification and pathophysiology of various sleep-disordered breathing conditions.
- Distinguish between obstructive sleep apnea, central sleep apnea, hypoventilation, and hypoxemia due to ventilation-perfusion mismatch.
- Identify appropriate diagnostic tools and interpret polysomnographic findings.
- Implement effective treatment strategies based on the underlying mechanisms of sleep-disordered breathing.
